Spryo Reignited Trilogy Is The Greatest Gift To 90s Kids

Updated: Oct 30, 2018

You may have seen Steph’s article covering why she isn’t so hyped about the Spyro Reignited Trilogy - but let me counteract that with my rose tinted, nostalgia-filled argument.

It Started in Glimmer

Back in the good ol’days of PlayStation 1 I remember many games, but there aren’t any that I remember completing as many times as Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer and there was nothing quite like booting up the PS1 and hearing this:

From here I moved onto the third game and finally the first (yes I did it wrong), but oh my God, what an incredible series. Beautiful levels, fantastic controls, innovative game design, a killer soundtrack and an iconic protagonist - this is one of the greatest game series in history.

But why should we support these remasters when we deserve backwards compatibility?

An Abuse of Our Love?

While there has been an influx of nostalgia driven games over the past few years, and we PS4 fans continue to suffer from the lack of backwards compatibility, we do not suffer from a lack of games.

As the 90s kids are now adults we’ve witnessed the evolution of gaming; through ambitious MMOs to glorious open-world RPGs, this is the golden era of gaming.

So of course we aren’t going to leave the games which made us gamers behind.

Game companies such as Toys For Bob who are bringing our childhood games back to life aren’t forcing us to buy remasters: they’re giving us the option to celebrate a beloved piece of our childhood, rekindling memories and offering the chance to make more.

And, I don’t know what you think - but isn’t that what being a gamer is all about?

Should You Buy It?

The Reignited Trilogy promises to bring to life the every bit of excitement you felt when picking up your original dual shock controller. Toys For Bob have completely rebuilt the world of Spyro; simultaneously staying true to the original games while polishing it to such a standard it'll amaze new players.

If you spent a massive chunk of your childhood completing this trilogy and you have a warm spot in your heart - just buy it. You know what to expect, and you know you won't be disappointed.
